Thorpe Park Resort Queue Signs
Background
Thorpe Park resort is one of England’s leading amusement park that welcomes thousands of guests per day. Queues at Thorpe Park can often reach up to 90 minutes which could come as a surprise to guests if there were no queue signs.
Challenge
The park faced the challenge of installing high quality external queue signs that can be changed and configured remotely. These queue signs would require 1 Cat 6 cable to the sign to allow the sign to display accurate queue waiting times. Often the desired location of these signs where in difficult locations to get a cable to.
Solution
Working together with Thorpe Parks IT team we created a list of locations that the queue signs can go that can be reached within 100 meters of the data cabinet. It was vital that the cables where less than 100 meters as this is the maximum distance a Cat 6 cable can go without experiencing data loss.
Results
The implementation of these queue signs allows the guests of the park to get an understanding of the length of the queue before even joining it. This then allows guests to be able to structure their days around the lengths of the queues for different rides. The ride operators can alter the queue sign display in accordance with the length of the queues. Also, the queue signs can show a various number of different images such as the site speed limit and a real time count down until the park opens. This can all be done over the network.
