Background

Merlin Entertainments is one of the world’s leading location-based entertainment companies, operating over 140 attractions across 25 countries. Known for global icons such as Madame Tussauds, SEA LIFE, The London Eye, LEGOLAND®, and many more, Merlin relies heavily on fast, reliable, and scalable network infrastructure to support its corporate operations. When establishing a new multi-floor London office within Arbour Building, Merlin required a modern, future-ready connectivity solution capable of supporting a high volume of users, devices, and cloud-based applications.

Challenge

Merlin needed a high-performance structured cabling and wireless solution that could:
  • Support high-density device environments across two busy office floors
  • Deliver seamless and reliable Wi-Fi 6E connectivity throughout a mix of workspaces, meeting rooms, and collaboration areas
  • Provide a robust fibre backbone linking both floors for rapid data transfer
  • Accommodate new network cabinets, tidy cable management, and space for core and edge equipment
  • Ensure all elements were fully tested, certified, and compliant with the latest industry standards

Solution

Coastal Comms provided a complete structured cabling and wireless deployment across both the 16th and 17th floors of the Arbour Building. The solution included:

Structured cabling installation
  • 289 Cat6A cables installed, terminated, and tested on the 16th floor
  • 139 Cat6A cables installed, terminated, and tested on the 17th floor
  • All outlets certified for 10-Gigabit performance, ensuring capacity for high-bandwidth devices and applications
Fibre backbone & cabinet installation
  • Installation and testing of 1 x 12-core OM4 multimode fibre to interlink network cabinets between both floors, creating a resilient, high-capacity backbone
  • Two new 42U network cabinets, one per floor, designed for secure equipment housing and efficient cable management
Wi-Fi 6E wireless deployment

We installed 16 Juniper Mist AP45 access points across both floors to deliver a full 6GHz wireless network:

  • 10 APs on the 16th floor serving open-plan areas and meeting rooms
  • 6 APs on the 17th floor providing reliable coverage to offices, shared spaces, and breakout zones

This ensured uninterrupted connectivity and strong wireless performance throughout the workspace.

Testing & certification

All Cat6A and OM4 fibre components were rigorously tested using advanced Fluke Networks equipment.
Certified test results were provided to Merlin to verify performance, compliance, and long-term reliability.

The completed installation has equipped Merlin Entertainments’ new London office with an enterprise-grade network infrastructure designed for today’s needs and tomorrow’s technology. Key outcomes include:
  • Full 6GHz Wi-Fi 6E coverage across both floors for faster, more reliable wireless performance
  • A future-proof structured cabling system capable of supporting high user density and 10-Gigabit applications
