Background
Legoland Windsor is one of the UK’s leading family resorts, offering a combination of theme park attractions and immersive accommodation experiences. As part of their ongoing expansion, the resort developed the Woodland Village. This is a collection of remote woodland lodges designed to offer a unique, nature-inspired stay for guests.
To support modern digital expectations, including IPTV, guest Wi-Fi, and operational connectivity, Legoland required a robust, high-speed network infrastructure capable of delivering seamless performance across the new remote site.
Challenge
The Woodland Village development posed several key challenges:
- Lodges were spread across remote areas, requiring long-distance structured cabling routed through underground ducting
- The site needed simultaneous support for IPTV and Wi-Fi, demanding high capacity, low latency, and stable performance
- Infrastructure had to link back to a central distribution point using high-grade fibre
- Multiple new cabinets, both internal and external, were required to house networking equipment
- All hardware had to be installed to manufacturer standards and certified for long-term reliability
Solution
We delivered a complete structured cabling and wireless infrastructure solution across the entire Woodland Village site.
Structured cabling installation
- Installed and terminated 402 Cat6a cables via underground ducting networks
- Each lodge was provided with high-speed connectivity suitable for IPTV and internet access
- All cables tested with Fluke Networks equipment to verify performance
Wi-Fi infrastructure deployment
- Installed 179 Juniper Mist AP12 access points throughout the lodges and facilities
- Installed 8 Juniper Mist AP63 outdoor-grade access points to ensure seamless coverage across external areas
- Delivered fast, reliable, and secure wireless access for guests and staff
Fibre optic backbone installation
- Installed and terminated 5 x 12-core OS2 fibre optic cables
- Linked the main distribution cabinet with remote access cabinets to create a high-capacity backbone
- Provided consistent bandwidth and low-latency performance across the site
Cabinet installation & equipment setup
- Installed 4 x 24U external cabinets
- Installed 1 x 42U internal floor-standing cabinet and 1 x 21U internal cabinet
- Performed full cabinet patching and installed new switches using 0.2m Cat6a patch cables to maintain tidy, efficient management
Certified installation
- All products supplied through Excel Networking
- Full installation certified for a 25-year manufacturer warranty, ensuring long-term system reliability
