Accommodation Wi-Fi Upgrade

Alton Towers

Background

Alton Towers Resort is one of the UK’s most iconic entertainment destinations, offering an expansive theme park alongside a wide range of themed accommodation. With hotels, woodland lodges, luxury suites, splash-themed rooms, and unique outdoor stargazing pods, the resort welcomes millions of guests each year. As guest expectations for fast and reliable Wi-Fi continue to rise, Alton Towers required a major overhaul of its wireless infrastructure to deliver modern, high-performance connectivity across its entire portfolio of accommodation.

Challenge

Alton Towers needed to transform its accommodation Wi-Fi network to meet several key requirements:
  • Provide fast, reliable coverage across every bedroom, lodge, pod, and communal area
  • Support a wide range of guest devices, streaming demands, and digital resort services
  • Deliver seamless roaming and strong signal performance even in challenging outdoor areas
  • Integrate multiple accommodation types, each with different cabling conditions, some requiring new structured cabling, others relying on existing infrastructure
  • Ensure all cabling, fibre uplinks, and access points were tested, certified, and future-ready
This large-scale, multi-location upgrade required a consistent, resilient, and high-capacity wireless solution capable of supporting both current guest needs and emerging smart-resort technologies.

Solution

We deployed a full-site wireless upgrade across all Alton Towers Resort accommodation areas, combining Juniper Mist access point technology with high-quality structured cabling and fibre installations.
Access point deployment

A total of 760 Juniper Mist Access Points were installed, tailored to suit the requirements of each environment:

  • 599 x AP12 – Installed in individual guest bedrooms for consistent room-level performance
  • 23 x AP43 – Positioned in high-density areas where enhanced capacity and speed were essential
  • 81 x AP33 – Deployed in communal spaces and general accommodation zones
  • 57 x AP63 – Weather-resistant APs used in outdoor areas such as the Enchanted Village and Stargazing Pods
Testing & certification

All cabling and fibre work was rigorously tested using the latest Fluke DSX-5000 and CertiFibre Pro equipment. Certified test results were provided to ensure full compliance with performance standards and long-term reliability.
